Scripps Spelling Bee Word Games – Kindle Edition

In honor of the Scripps Spelling Bee Finals going on June 2, THQ has an exciting new Kindle app available called Scripps Spelling Bee: Word Games for $2.99.

The National Scripps Spelling Bee is held annually the week after Memorial Day in Washington DC and started in 1925.  This year’s dates were May 31-June 2. The Bee includes spellers from a good number of countries, including the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and Europe.  The spellers enter the National Bee once they have won a number of local spelling bees in their area.

The Spelling Bee Kindle app includes three games: Word Search, Honeycomb Hunt, and Mystery Bee.

Scripps Spelling Bee includes four levels of difficulty: easy, medium, hard and extreme.  The varying levels allows spellers of all ages try their hand at this fun and interactive game. Learn how to open EPUB file.

Mystery Bee is a lot like Hangman.  You try to guess the letters of a word, and if you get it wrong, a body part appears.  Make sure you don’t miss enough to hang the whole body!  The difference in this case is that instead of a human stick figure, the body parts are of a bee.  Don’t get discouraged if you can’t figure out a word, there are clues available if you need them.

Honeycomb Hunt consists of a honeycomb that is filled with scrambled letters.  Try to rotate the letters to create all of the words in the grid.  Each letter is in their own individual hexagon, and make sure you don’t disturb finished words when you create new ones.

Word Search is a grid of scrambled letters.  I’m sure you are familiar with this one.  You find words vertically, horizontally, and diagonally.  The added twist with this version of Word Search is that you only have ten minutes to find all of the words.  Talk about added pressure!

I think that games are a much more exciting way to study words than strict memorization, and everyone can join in on the fun too.  I hope that they will do similar Kindle games to help study for the SAT or GRE.
