Free Kindle Light Giveaway Contest

A while ago I have reviewed a different kind of reading light that can be used with Kindle for reading at night. As the holiday season is upon us, ASF Lightware Solutions (the company that makes the light) is sponsoring a free giveaway of Beam N Read LED 3 Hands Free Light here on BlogKindle. Here’s how it will work:

From now on until PST midnight of November 28th, 2010 anyone can leave a comment here detailing whom do they want to gift this light to and why. At this point you don’t need to leave shipping address or any other contact information. Just make sure that you use working email address when submitting the comment. Please identify the person whom you want to gift the light to in general terms like Aunt Lisa or Uncle George rather than using first and last name and specific location.

First thing on November 29th I’m going to select a random comment by means of some SQL magic and contact the author of this comment regarding where and how to ship the free light. I will then forward this information to ASF Lightware Solutions and they will send the light to the lucky winner via USPS priority mail. The lucky winner can then wrap the light in gift paper and present it to their friend, relative or someone special.

It’s as simple as that. Please make your comments creative and tasteful.

  1. First – the back story – I instantly decided I wanted a Kindle 3 after seeing one ‘in the flesh’ for the first time a few weeks ago. A friend brought one into the office and I immediately fell in love with it. A few days ago my wife asked me if I’d like one for Christmas – would I ever!

The kindle itself has a very vertical identity. One size fits all and even without yet owning one, by looking online, I know exactly what I’m getting. This is not the case with lights (or cases) for the Kindle. Since I acquired the “I’m getting a Kindle” knowledge, I turned to what I thought would be a fairly quick and obvious task of finding a protective case and suitable light. My first reaction was to go for the expensive proprietary case/light combo – but the big downside of that would be that I wouldn’t be able to read whilst lying in bed on my right hand side, holding the book on a cushion (as is a very common way for me to digest literature) as the stick out light would get squashed. No, I needed a light that would fix in the middle, at the top. I decided to widen the search.

What happened next was an explosive array of shopping options. At this stage, I’ve still not decided which way to turn – that’s how I came across blogkindle.com – looking for hints.

The option of reviewing products online is especially difficulty in the case of this quest – video / photography of low light conditions do not accuratly show you what you would see with the human eye. I’m mainly going off reviews and logical looking design. I’m also going off battery type – I want something with a very common battery type – AA or AAA (which are probably the most ubiquitous batteries on the planet and I’ve already got several rechargeable ones.)

As well as the lying down on one side to read option, the things I like about the Bean n Read would be that it’s a simple, logical, no nonsense looking design. It’s not JUST for a kindle (I will still hopefully enjoy good ol’ hard copy from time to time.. or will I?). I especially liked the red filter – knowing first hand that it really does help preserve night vision. I particularly like this feature, as I know there’s a lot less chance of disturbing my wife when need to read, during an inverted siesta.

As well as my quest to find a suitable light, I’m also looking out for a case / cover / sleeve and judging by first forays to find, I’ve got an even greater hunt on my hands!

Thanks for the blog, keep up the good work!

    Matt

  2. As a star in the sky I will use that light to guide me through my readings and as a light in the shadow everyone will see my Kindle and they will think : “What a marvelous device, I need one !”
And when they will come to ask me for that device I will say : http://blogkindle.com/ is the website to go !

Then I will continue to read ^^

  3. This little light of mine will go to Sister Sharon, along the Kindle I have for her — though she does not know I have a Kindle for her because I’m liking having two here for myself.

  4. My girlfriend Julia deserves one since she so gracefully accepted my Kindle 1 after buying me a Kindle 3 for my birthday.

  5. I’d love to give a light like this to my wife, for her to use when reading on long, overnight cross-country flights. Thanks for the contest!

  6. I would LOVE to give my daughter Danielle a Kindle for her Birthday, December 18 or for Christmas, but with so many grandchildren to buy for I don’t see that happening this year. Danielle LOVES to read and is a regular at the library…they know her on a first name basis, her and my grandchildren. She is passing the importance of reading along to her children, by taking them to the library at least twice a week, and checking out books for them to read individualy and as a family. This would be a wonderful gift.

  7. I would give this to my youngest son along with his new kindle. He needs it so he can read in his dorm room without disturbing his two roommates.

  8. This would be perfect for my husband, who could use it for a multitude of reasons – so he can read at night and not disturb anyone of course, but first and foremost for “camping out” with our preschooler and kindergartner under the blankets and have story time.

  9. We have 4 kindles and no light. One light would brighten the lives of all 4 boys, what a gift this would be!

  10. This is going to sound terribly selfish but.. I want it as a gift to myself! I have had an extremely busy semester at school and am so excited that I will have my first Kindle delivered today! I bought it as a reward for myself and hopefully it is not a distraction but a motivator for me to get through these next few weeks. The light in itself would be a phenomenal addition and I just can’t wait!

  11. I would like one for my Daughter Stephanie and I to share. Sometime she will read at night sitting next to her night light. It is cute, but this would be better!! I could use it when I ever get my Kindle back from her!! LOL!!

  12. I’d give it to my brother, as he is about to purchase a Kindle of his own and I feel a reading light is pretty vital when reading at night.

  13. I would like one for my partner. I’ll buy her a kindle next month as birthday gift, I want to make it a set.

  14. My son would make great use of this kind of light. He loves to read before he goes to sleep. He shares a bedroom with his brother and could read “in the dark” without causing any sibling tension.

  15. I would love to give this to my mother, who is getting her very first ereader this year! She will love the convenience and freedom these give her, as arthritis is making holding a book harder, and she loves to read.

  16. I plan on buying a kindle for my new father-in-law (just married last month) for christmas. This would help solidify the new relationship (I hope).

  17. Hi there,
my wife Laura without kindle cannot survive.
Please send me a free light to shine her nights awake, reading reading reading…

    Thanks
    Carlo

  18. I love a good contest. I’d love to give a light to my nephew who is always reading, in the car, late at night, blah, blah, blah, . . .

    Thanks,

    rby

  19. I second a comment earlier – I would give one to myself, although one of my parents is a possibility as well since they gifted me with the kindle I just got. I need to get used to reading books on the kindle as opposed to my laptop, no backlight, etc.

  20. I currently have a small led light that clips to the top of my Kindle, but doesn’t seem to provide a good focus of light on the reading surface. This light would be a gift for my wife who, like the first poster, would prefer me to use a reading light that illuminates the reading surface rather than casts light elsewhere…

  21. I’d want to give it to my new wife. She is getting a kindle for xmas, the luckly girl, and i think she deserves it. She has been thru a rollercoaster year, so its time for some nice presents

  22. I would like to give the Kindle light to my beloved daughter Heidi, so she can keeps reading in my car at the night.

  23. I want to give the Kindle light to nine-year-old Will, who thinks his parents don’t know he reads under the covers with a flashlight!

  24. I would like to give this light to my ex-husband. When I told him I got a Kindle, he gave me a $100 gift card so I could order whatever books I desired. He also has a Kindle.

  25. I would give the Beam N Read light to my daughter, Kat. She is in graduate school and reads her Kindle at night before bed. She doesn’t have a book light so she uses her small bedside lamp ( a mini lamp that gives off just a hint of light). I am forever telling her that the lighting isn’t good for reading in bed. Her vision is already not the best so I would love to give her the light and save her eyesight.

  26. I would like to get this light for my girlfriend of 17 years, Ellen. In all those years, she has never wanted to buy herself anything. She always wants to buy me things, and the only way she will let me get her anything is if I get something for myself too. Ellen is the most unselfish person I have ever known, and she deserves to have nice things happen to her.

  27. My girlfriend very likes reading books, her birthday will be on next month and i want to give her a surprise. She’ll be very happy with this Kindle.

  28. I’m selfish. I’ll admit it. I’ve got a Kindle and no light. If I had friends, they would probably have Kindles, but… oh well. There’s only so long until my wife starts using my Kindle then it will suddenly become her Kindle and I will be without both Kindle and friends. Thus there is a short window within which I could enjoy using a Kindle with a Kindle-specific light like the nifty one described. Please?

  29. i’ve been using a Kindle 3 for some time now, but when i myself using it on my commute home, i realise that oftentimes i don’t have as much light as i would like to have to be able to read. it also looks like it’ll offer better stability than say a clip-on light.

great site – keep it up :)

  30. My sister Pam will be the recipient of “the light”. She loaned me her Kindle while I was going through surgery last year, and got me hooked so I now have my own Kindle.

  31. I am considering buying my little sister a kindle for christmas, so if I won this her gift would be even better.

  32. I bought my Mom a reader but she says she wants to be able to read in the dark – help me rid her of her last excuse not to hop on the Kindletrain.

  33. I would give it to my friend Deb who travels a lot and uses her kindle to stay up on the newspaper and her reading.

  34. To be perfectly honest, I would give this to…myself! My husband bought me a Kindle for my birthday, but then bought his own e-reader complete with accessories. I still need a light for mine and would love to try this one. Thanks for the chance!

  35. I’d give this to my Dad. He likes to read late and this would be perfect for him (and be better for his eyes).

  36. My daughter-in-law has a young boy that wakes her up at night. She settles him, then reads her Kindle to get back to sleep. Not waking up my son would be a lovely feature of a Kindle-reading lamp for her.

  37. I would love to give one to my daughter-in-law who has to get up for the baby in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep easily. She goes in the linving room to read on her Kindle 2 for a while and can then go back to bed to sleep. If she had a light she could read in bed without disturbing her husband or the baby. I’m on a very low fixed income and can’t and can’t afford to buy her the Kindle light for Christmas. Thank you for the chance to win one for her!
